- Apple Pay Users Can Now Spend in Bitcoin & Other Cryptocurrencies
Apple Pay users are presently able to use Bitcoin and a few other popular cryptocurrencies to make payments thanks to Apple Wallet‘s support for the BitPay Prepaid Mastercard. An app called BitPay allows users to buy Bitcoins as well as use the app’s prepaid Mastercard in Apple Pay. The BitPay wallet can be added to both Apple Wallet and Apple Pay. The BitPay app is also expected to roll out support on other prominent payment applications like Google Pay and Samsung Pay. This will allow a significant number of Android users to access the service of the application.
BitPay CEO Stephen Pair comments, “We have thousands of BitPay Wallet app customers using the BitPay Card who are always looking for new places and ways to spend their crypto. Adding Apple Pay and soon Google and Samsung Pay makes it easy and convenient to use the BitPay Card in more places from day-to-day items to luxury purchases.” Conforming to the application's description on Google Play Store, any user can apply for a BitPay Card to start spending crypto instantly. It claims that approval only takes seconds, and the virtual card will be available for immediate use online. The user will also get a physical card will after a couple of weeks through which the user will be able to convert their crypto into cash at the ATM or spend it in any retail store. However, this will only be applicable to users in the United States.
- WhatsApp Pay Removed Request Payment Feature in India
WhatsApp has eliminated the Request Payment feature for its UPI-based payment service in India. Users can no longer request peer-to-peer payments as was possible when WhatsApp was beta testing the app. Requesting payments were possible on WhatsApp until recently in-chat by selecting the Pay option. Now, neither the Payments tab nor chats show the option. Requesting payments was not a feature available at first on WhatsApp; the company included the feature in 2018.
It is unclear why the feature was removed. A probable deduction could be that it is a safer play against frauds, as millions of users enable payments, WhatsApp may have found it easier to deal with potential social engineering fraud by disabling requesting payments altogether. WhatsApp Pay has been allowed to exit its beta stage, but Facebook can’t enroll more than 20 million users, in a blunt preemptive condition by the National Payments Corporation of India to address competition concerns. The messaging company processed 5.6 mn UPI transactions in January, and seems nowhere near its 20 mn user cap, assuming that users with the app are using it regularly.
