  • Alibaba's Jack Ma Made First Public Appearance Since October Last Year.

Alibaba Group founder Jack Ma made his first public appearance by meeting with 100 rural teachers in China via a video meeting on Wednesday, local government media reported, making the businessman's first appearance in public since October.


China’s highest-profile entrepreneur had not appeared in a public since October forum in Shanghai where he blasted China’s regulatory system in a speech that put him on a collision course with officials, resulting in the suspension of a $37 billion IPO of Alibaba’s Ant Group fintech arm.


  •  LG Considering Exit From Smartphone Business, 60% Employees To Be Moved To Other Units.

LG Electronics is exiting the smartphone business. It is said that the company’s phone market share had recorded a loss of 5 trillion won (Approx $18 billion) over the past five years. The Korea Herald cited rumors where 60% of the mobile division’s staff will be moved and reassigned to other business units within the company or to other LG affiliates.

CEO of LG  Kwon Bong-seok sent out a message to staff stating that it was “about time for LG to make a cold judgment” about its ailing mobile division. “The company is considering all possible measures, including sale, withdrawal and downsizing of the smartphone business,” he said.


  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 5G SoC Announced.
Qualcomm has launched the Snapdragon 870 chipset. It has been announced as a follow-up to the flagship Snapdragon 865 Plus chipset which features an enhanced Kryo 585 CPU prime core clocked at a speed of up to 3.2 GHz. Qualcomm claims the new Snapdragon 870 is designed to deliver even better performance across the board for geared-up gameplay with insanely fast Qualcomm Snapdragon Elite Gaming experiences. 

It also offers 5G at sub-6 GHz and mmWave, and "ultra-intuitive AI". With the Snapdragon 870 SoC, Qualcomm is promising fast performance with the help of its Kryo 585 CPU which is now clocked for even higher performance. The chipset is designed for powerful computing, and can deliver "top performance with maximum power efficiency."



  • AI-startup Alphaics Raised $8 Million In Series B Funding.
On 20th January, AlphaICs, a California and Bengaluru edge AI technology startup, revealed it has raised $8 million in funding. Endiya Partners and Emerald Technology Ventures led the Series B round, with the participation of established Series A participants, ReBright Partners, and 3One4 Funds, along with Aaruha Technology Fund, IREON Ventures, Canal Ventures, JSR Company, CBC Co ltd., and Whiteboard Capital.


Established in 2016, AlphaICs advances edge inference and edge learning technology to allow edge-level AI. Its Real AI Processor (RAPTM) Next-Generation AI architecture claims to have the highest performance, low power, and reduced latency, allowing best-in-class edge AI inference processing.


  • Google Released Chrome 88 For All Platforms With Major Updates.
Google has released a major update to its Chrome browser for all major platforms. The stable version of Chrome 88 is available for Windows, Linux and macOS, as well as iOS and Android. It brings quite a lot of innovation and the discontinuation of support for a number of technologies and platforms.


Among other things, Chrome 88 dropped support for Mac OS X Yosemite and now requires at least OS X 10.11 El Capitan to run. The browser can no longer be used as an FTP client, ftp: //… addresses are no longer supported. Also, the developers finally got rid of the Adobe Flash Player. In addition, Google finally got rid of the Legacy Browser Support (LBS) add-on.
