  • Indian Govt Asked Whatsapp To Withdraw New Privacy Policy For Indian Users; Sent A Letter To Whatsapp CEO

India has asked WhatsApp to withdraw the planned change to its privacy policy, posing a new headache to the Facebook-owned service that identifies the South Asian nation as its biggest market by users.


In an email to WhatsApp head, the nation’s IT ministry said the upcoming update to the app’s data-sharing policy has raised “grave concerns regarding the implications for the choice and autonomy of Indian citizens… Therefore, you are called upon to withdraw the proposed changes.”


  • Uber & Lenskart Partnered With Road Transport And Highways Ministry To Offer Free Eye Tests To Drivers.
In a bid to promote road safety, Uber and Lenskart, in a statement on January 18, said they have partnered with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India, to offer free eye-tests and subsidised vision correction glasses to driver-partners.


Moreover, Nitin Gadkari, Minister of Road Transport and Highways, distributed vision correction glasses to 10 top-rated Uber driver-partners. The Minister said that road accidents are rising and in 2019 alone, over 1.54 lakh people were killed in road crashes across the country.

  • Phonepe Surpassed Google Pay To Become Leading Upi App In December.
Walmart-backed Phonepe has emerged the top unified payments interface (UPI) application in December, with 902.03 million transactions accounting for Rs 1.82 trillion, followed by Google Pay with 854.49 million transactions worth Rs 1.76 trillion.

Google Pay has seen 11 per cent fall in transaction volume in December, compared to November. In November, Google Pay had seen 960.02 million transactions accounting for Rs 1.61 trillion, followed by PhonePe, with 868.4 million transactions worth Rs 1.75 trillion.
