- Top Twitter Officials in India May Face Arrest for Non-Compliance with Govt's Notice to Block Accounts.
The Centre may arrest Twitter's top executives in India stating that its list of accounts sought to be censured over “inflammatory content” was unnegotiable. High-ranking executives of Twitter are now facing arrest under Section 69A of the IT Act if the Centre's demand of banning some handles spreading inflammatory "farmer genocide" hashtags and those supporting pro-Pakistan and pro-Khalistan agendas are unfulfilled Reportedly the US micro-blogging giant, which partially followed the order by taking down around half of the accounts sought to be blocked by the government, may now approach the courts as it holds ground in the defense of “right of free expression on behalf of the people we serve.”
India has ordered Twitter to remove more than 1,100 accounts and posts that it claims are spreading misinformation about the widespread protests by Indian farmers against new agricultural laws. Twitter Inc riled Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government earlier on Wednesday after it said in a public blog post that it had not adequately complied with the government's order because it believed some of the take-down orders were not consistent with Indian law. The government, in addition, said, "Twitter is free to formulate its own rules and guidelines. But Indian laws which are enacted by the Parliament of India must be followed irrespective of Twitter's own rules and guidelines."
- Social Media Platforms Should Follow Indian Laws: IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad Said.
Information and Technology Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad Thursday accused social media platforms of “double standards” in their approach to recent events at the US Capitol Hill and the Red Fort on Republic Day. He further added global social media platforms such as Twitter, WhatsApp, Facebook and others were welcome to work, earn money in India but they should follow the law and the Constitution of India. On Wednesday, the IT Ministry had expressed deep displeasure over Twitter’s response to the government’s emergency order.
Prasad also mentioned Koo, a homemade version of the social networking platform which many ministers and departments of the Union government have started moving to in the wake of the government’s face-off with Twitter. He called it a “big success.” About steps taken to curb fake news and messages, he added: “We respect social media. It has empowered common people. We respect criticism… you can criticise even the Prime Minister. But if social media is used to propagate hate, then action will be taken.”

Over the last year, we have seen many Google products gaining a native dark mode, including the Google Pay app, Google Translate, Google Docs, Google Chrome on desktop, and many more.
- Qualcomm Introduced New Snapdragon X65 5G Modem & Promised Up To 10 Gbps Speeds.
Qualcomm on Tuesday has launched its fourth-generation Snapdragon X65 modem, the world’s first 5G modem that offers up to 10Gbps of wireless speeds on both standalone and non-standalone 5G networks. Snapdragon X65 marks a major leap for Qualcomm in 5G solutions since the commercialization of its first modem-RF (radio-frequency) system. The new 5G modem is based on 3GPP Release 16 and is designed on a 4nm manufacturing process. Similar to the third-generation Snapdragon X60, the X65 modem can aggregate data from mmWave sub-6GHz bands simultaneously in order to achieve the optimal combination of high speed and low-latency coverage.
It is designed to support the fastest 5G speeds currently available with fibre-like wireless performance and makes the best use of available spectrum for ultimate network flexibility, capacity, and coverage. The company says that the architecture of the X65 modem is upgradable. The Snapdragon X65 which is designed for smartphones, tablets, PCs are expected to launch in products in early 2021.Qualcomm has also introduced the ‘world’s first’ AI antenna tuning technology which can detect the user’s grip more accurately by 30 percent, allowing it to offer improved connectivity, faster speed, and better coverage and battery.
- Apple Maps Might Soon Get A Feature to Report Accidents & Speed Checks Like Google Maps.
Apple Maps is testing a new update that will soon allow users to report accidents, speed checks and hazards on the road while navigating to a destination. The new update is limited to iOS 14.5 beta release and Apple is expected to launch the feature in the next public iOS release, in the coming days. This new reporting feature on Apple Maps looks quite similar to the incident reporting feature that is available on Google Maps and Waze. However, additionally, Apple Maps users can use Siri to report an incident as well by just using voice commands.
There will be a new ‘Report’ button which will appear alongside the existing Add Stop, Share ETA, Details, and Audio options, and once the user presses on the ‘Report’ button, one can select what sort of incident or hazard you want to report. Users can also report an incident using Siri, by simply saying 'Hey Siri! There's an accident on the road'. The feature is being tested only in the United States, for limited users. Not everyone on iOS 14.5 beta have seen the update on their phones, but Apple could release it widely on its next public software rollout, for major markets.
