  • Data Of 5.62 Lakh Indian Facebook Users Stolen; CBI Filed Case Against Cambridge Analytica.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday registered a case against Cambridge Analytica Limited and Global Science Research Limited (GSRL) in connection with data theft of 5.62 lakh Facebook users in India which allegedly have been used for profiling and influencing elections.  

Aleksandr Kogan, Founder-Director of GSRL had created an application “thisisyourdigitallife” As per the platform policy of Facebook, this application was authorized to collect certain specific data of users for academic and research purposes, however, they illegally collected data of users and their friends. Facebook in response, told CBI that this application was used by 335 users in India. However, through this application, Facebook friends of these users were also targeted and data of 5.62 lakh was illegally stolen without the knowledge of users.


  • Google Said That It Will Shut Search Engine in Australia If Forced to Pay for News 
Google on Friday has threatened to disable its search engine in Australia while Facebook threatened to ban news content from its platform if the government proceeds with the media code that would force them to pay local media companies for sharing their content. Australia is on course to pass laws that would make the Big Tech giants negotiate payments with local publishers and broadcasters for content. If they can't strike a deal, a government-appointed arbitrator will decide the price. 

Google’s comments drew a sharp rebuke from Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison who said the country makes its rules for “things you can do in Australia.” He further added, "People who want to work with that in Australia, you’re very welcome. But we don’t respond to threats.” Google's threat to limit its services in Australia came just hours after the internet giant reached a content-payment deal with some French news publishers.


  • Elon Musk to Give $100 Million For Carbon Capture Solution .
The CEO of Tesla Elon Musk has another idea to help the climate. He said he would donate $100 million to whoever can come up with the best carbon-capture technology. It’s the latest initiative from Musk, to tackle global warming, a topic that has driven the entrepreneur for years. Carbon dioxide, emitted when fossil fuels are burned either to power cars or generate electricity, is the main gas blamed for global warming. 


The prize that Musk has told he will contribute to is connected to the Xprize Foundation. The foundation is a nonprofit that puts on competitions to promote and support innovation. Musk has spoken often about his vision for a future with less greenhouse gas emissions. He mentioned it most recently in the context of Tesla’s goal to deliver 20 million electric vehicles a year in the future.


  • Poco C3 Crossed 1 Million Sales Mark in India.

Xiaomi’s spin-off Poco last year in October launched Poco C3 in India. In the competitive budget smartphone market of India, the Poco C3 on Thursday has crossed a major milestone: crossing one million units in sales. Poco C3 crossed the one-million sales mark in a little over three months since its launch in the Indian market. The smartphone has also received a discounted price that is applicable until January 24. 


Poco C3 is available at Rs. 6,999 for the 3GB + 32GB storage variant, while its 4GB + 64GB storage model comes at Rs. 7,999. Both prices show a Rs. 500 cut from its regular pricing and are applicable through Flipkart. Customers can also avail themselves of a 10 percent instant discount via HDFC Bank cards. The device is powered by MediaTek Helio G35 SoC. Other key specs of the mobile phone include HD+ display, triple rear cameras, and more.


  • LG Could Sell Its Smartphone Business to Vietnam-based Vingroup 
It's being reported that the South Korea-based LG could soon exit the smartphone business. It seems that the company is already in talks with potential buyers for the business unit. As per the latest information, the Vietnamese conglomerate VinGroup is likely to be the buyer of the LG smartphone business. They have reportedly put forward the most attractive offer among the companies that covet LG Electronics' smartphone business. Vingroup is currently the third-largest smartphone producer in Vietnam after Samsung Electronics and Oppo.  


It is likely that LG Electronics will be responsible for the design and R&D while Vingroup will assemble the products as an original equipment manufacturing (OEM) company. LG Electronics has an advanced smartphone manufacturing plant in Vietnam, which the Vietnamese government and Vingroup aim to utilize to up its global smartphone competitiveness, while Brazil and Chinese plants will be used to better enter regional markets.
